Help your child avoid the Summer Slide by having him/her read daily. We've discovered the key to climbing versus sliding was that the climbing students made reading a regular part of their summer schedule (20-30 minutes daily). For Summer 2016, Newsela has created a fun challenge called "Camp Newsela". Students can choose a "club" to enjoy themed articles. There are camps about animals, heroes, space, technology and more. The challenge is to read 20 articles and pass 20 quizzes. Recommended for 3rd grade and up.
